Redaction Forms for Law Enforcement
Under Iowa’s "Back the Blue" legislation, qualified law enforcement personnel, judges, and prosecutors can request the redaction of their names on electronic public records displayed on the internet. This mainly protects residential and personal information from being easily searched online.
How the Redaction Works
Eligible Records: The redaction applies to county assessor websites, county recorder sites, and the statewide Iowa Land Records portal.
What is Hidden: Only your name is redacted on the document; the physical property address, parcel information, and transaction history remain visible.
Who is Eligible: Current and former peace officers, civilian employees of law enforcement agencies, and state/federal judicial officers and prosecutors.
How to Submit a Request
To remove your name from public-facing property or land records, you will need to file a formal application with your local county office.
Recorder's Office: To redact your name from electronic documents (like real estate transfers or mortgages), submit a request form to our office at recorder@jasperia.org.
This form is required for the processing of any redaction request under this section: Redaction Request Form
