Director / Administrator of Veterans Affairs
Veteran's status is preferred but is not mandatory for this position, and will not disqualify an applicant for not having veteran status. This position is currently scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Some evening or weekend work maybe required to attend meetings or assist with outreach programs. Starting salary will be based on the selected applicant's qualifications and experience. This position will be eligible for County paid benefits and insurance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Jasper County Director/Administrator of Veterans Affairs oversees and administers office operations including implementation of the Policies and Procedures of the Jasper County Veterans Affairs. Directs and coordinates Veteran assistance programs throughout Jasper County in accordance with Chapter 35B of the Code of Iowa. Assist Veterans and/or their eligible dependents in securing local, state, and federal benefits resulting from eligible service in the United States Armed Forces. Provides outreach services to Veterans and serves as a Veteran advocate in the community. Also responsible for the daily operation of the office, managing a part-time employee, compiling reports and budget information for the VA Commission and/or the Board of Supervisors, generates the agenda for Commission meetings, taking minutes and responding to the Commission's needs. Will be required to secure credentials to access various programs and State and/or Federal websites. Some travel with overnight accommodations will be required, individual maybe required to stay up to a week for training, certification or recertification. Selected candidate will need a valid Iowa driver's license, good driving record and reliable transportation. The County does not provide transportation for this position.
Special Requirements: Selected candidate must be a resident of Jasper County or willing to relocate to Jasper County within one (1) year of hire. Candidate must possess a valid Iowa driver's license, good driving record and reliable transportation.
Miscellaneous: This position will report directly to the Jasper County Veterans Affairs Commission.
