Inspection Technician
This position under supervision will perform a wide variety of routine paraprofessional, technical, administrative and specialized work involved in receiving and reviewing building, electrical, plumbing, septic, wells, nuisances, pools, tanning and tattoo parlors and related permit applications to the community development and environmental health program according to standards and regulations. Selected individual will work indoors and outside, in hot, cold, wet and dry environments. Applicants will need to be able to perform physical work, lift up to 50 lbs., climb, sit, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl for extended periods of time. Applicants need to posses a valid Iowa driver's license at the time of hire and have a good driving record. The starting rate of pay is $23.98 per hour ($24.46 as of 7/1/25) with annual increases and to include the County paid benefits package.
Qualifications: Training or experience in construction, electrical, environmental health and/or planning and zoning desired. Must be capable of operating GPS systems, Arc Map, Arc GIS Pro. Have excellent communication and customer service skills including verbal and written, excellent math skills including calculations of areas on a map and using a map, able to use sample and testing equipment (soil probe, tile probe & shovel). Ability to organize the office and file management system in a neat, accurate, timely, detailed and orderly fashion.
Special Requirements: Selected applicant must possess a valid Iowa driver's license at the time of hire. Applicant must have a safe driving record.
Miscellaneous: Selected candidate will work indoors and outside and be exposed to heat, cold, wet and drive environments. Selected candidate will be required to perform physical work to include lifting up to 50 lbs., walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl for extended periods.
