Bridge E14 over Indian Creek Meetings

Posted 11/10/25 · Engineer's Office & Secondary Roads

The Jasper County Engineer and the Board of Supervisors will be holding a public forum to discuss the closure and removal of Bridge E14 over Indian Creek.

The original structure was constructed in 1914, while the east span was added in 1950. Recent bridge inspections noted severe corrosion of the truss members, decay of the east abutment (wood backwall abutment) constructed in 1950, and a fully tipped west truss rocker bearing. Below is a graphic showing the area that flows through Bridge E14.

The bridge is not on a farm-to-market route, so it is not eligible for farm-to-market funding. Additionally, the bridge scores a 57 out of a total of 120 points on the County Bridge Priority Point Rating Worksheet from the Iowa DOT. The score is low due to a traffic count of about 20 vehicles per day, determined from camera footage and traffic counter data over two months, among other factors.

If you would like more information about this bridge closure and removal, the public forum will be on Monday, November 10th, at 6:30pm, and the public hearing will be on Tuesday, November 18th, at 9:30am. Both meetings will be held in the Board of Supervisors' room on the 2nd floor of the courthouse.
