Iowa Total Care-Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT)

You may be able to get no-cost rides to your non-emergency doctor visits, even a monthly bus pass. If family or friends drive you to an appointment, you may be able to get help paying for gas. You may also qualify for reimbursement of meals and lodging. 

Scheduling Rides

Rides must be set up at least 2 working days before an appointment. At times, urgent trips can be made with less than a 2-day notice. Access2Care may check with your doctor to make sure the appointment is urgent. Rides can be scheduled up to 30 days in advance of an appointment. You can schedule rides up to 90 days in advance for certain types of appointments. These include dialysis, chemotherapy or radiation treatments.

To schedule a ride, you can call Access2Care at 1-877-271-4819.

To schedule using the mobile app:

  1. Visit the Google PlayExternal Link or Apple App StoreExternal Link on your smartphone. There, you can download the Access2Care app.
  2. Once you download it, click Register in the app.
  3. Enter your member ID, date of birth, home address, email address, and phone number.
  4. You are now ready to schedule rides.

Non-emergency medical transportation
When you do not have a way to get to your medical appointments, non-emergency medical transportation to medical facilities can be covered. As an additional benefit, Molina Healthcare will cover trips to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription after a medical appointment and trips to Women's, Infants', and Children's (WIC) offices. Medical appointments include doctor, clinic, hospital, therapy, or behavioral health appointments. Let your transportation driver know that you will need to stop at the pharmacy on your return trip and ask your health care provider to call your prescription in to the pharmacy so it is ready when you get there.

Non-emergency medical transportation: To arrange transportation, or if you have any questions, please call (844) 644-6354. TTY for Deaf and Hard of Hearing: 7-1-1. Please call as soon as possible to schedule your transportation, but at least 72 hours before your appointment.

Scheduling a ride

Access2Care provides non-emergency medical transportation services for Iowa Health Link members. Rides to appointments must be scheduled two days in advance. To schedule a ride, call Access2Care at 844-544-1389, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Be sure to have this information ready when you call:

Your Wellpoint member number. It’s on the front of your ID card.

Pickup and drop-off addresses.
